There are so many fun things to do with your swimming pool, and so many ways to party, and often it's an event that calls for music and photos to mark the occassion, and maybe even a little light show to add some sparkle. Here is a list of underwater/waterproofing items that we think are a necessity if you plan on spending any amount of time in your swimming pool. It covers everything from a waterproof camera, to a waterproof mp3 player, to waterproof speakers. We even have a few suggestions for an underwater digital camera and waterproof ipod cases. Add a light show or two, and you are ready to tango!

Dancing with the Stars

Pond or garden pool underwater halogen light

** Great for parties

This is a Fully Submersible Pond Light with 5 interchangable colored lenses. It pivots and rotates and brings magic to those nighttime parties. If you ever swim at night, then you may already appreciate the cool 'glow' the lights give the pool at night. With the ability to pick your color, and its spotlight-like beam waving through the pool, you get some awesome effects. (and some excellent shots should you also own a waterproof camera). Very intense!

Aquaglow Underwater Light Starship

** Great for parties

Watch the fun and excitement with this dynamic light show as it orbits rotating patterns of color and lights that fill your pool or spa. It has a range of 15-20 feet, so if your pool is longer, you may want to consider getting two! You can have it auto-shutoff after 1, 2 or 3 hours and it only needs 3 AA batteries to run.

Splashdance Large 3 Pump

A visually stunning masterpeice of entertainment. This takes the beauty of fountains to a new level as it dances and pulses to music you select or to a preset program of movements. It creates a dramatic 5 ft to 7 ft display and can be installed in 30 minutes or less. You will want to add the splashdance egglites to your purchase to give your fountains a fiery nighttime glow. (If you want the fountains to dance to your music selection, you will need to hook the controller into a music source using a headphone type cable and jack which is not included. I would recommend you look at the waterproof ipod cases, so you can crank tunes poolside and keep your electronics high and dry.)

Capturing the Moment

VIVITAR Mariner 35mm Underwater Camera

** If you are not wanting to purchase a waterproof digital camera, but would prefer just a standard waterproof camera

Remember 35mm cameras? Here's an underwater camera ready to go with you down by the pool or even on your next snorkeling adventure. It's waterproof up to 10 ft, and for the price, you would think its a disposable.... but its not. It's a fully reloadable 35mm, which you use in the water with its casing on, or on land with its casing off.

Vivitar 6.0MP All Weather / Underwater Digital Camera- 6200W

** Easy for any age shutterbug

Specifically designed to take brighter, more colorful underwater pictures, this little underwater camera gives you alot of camera for your money. Focus free lens, 4x digital zoom, rubber armored, shockproof and waterproof up to 30ft. It can take video as well, so make sure you get the a suitable memory card (see the notes below for memory cards)

Fujifilm Quick Snap 35mm Single Use Waterproof Camera

** Great for the kids

Holds 800 speed color film and gives you 27 shots. It includes a hand strap and is waterproof up to a depth of 17 feet. These are great little cameras to have around for your teenagers pool party as they are inexpensive, waterproof and gives the kids lasting memories of their fun.

SeaLife SL321 ECOshot 6MP Underwater Digital Camera

Here's an underwater camera worth considering if you think you might venture away from the pool and do something a little more serious. This 6.0 mega pixel camera is rubber amored, shockproof and depth rated to 75 feet. It has various exposure modes for vivid color underwater or on land and has a "spy mode" where it will take continous pictures as set intervals. Couple that with a Sealife mini wide angle lens, and you are ready for those moments when you just need to get everything in the shot! A must have lens for divers. Get closer to the subject and still fit everything into the picture!

2GB Sandisk Ultra II Secure Digital Memory Card
2GB SanDisk Secure Digital SD Memory

** A necessity

If you are getting a ditigal camera, then you simply have to have a memory card. Now with today's prices for memory cards, I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a 2GB, and if you want to take video, then you should go for the UltraII card. Viedeo is captured at a higher rate of speed than what standard memory cards can handle, but the UltraII is able to save your images just as quickly as the camera can dish it out. This eliminates video that skips and jumps, and allows you to capture video which truly looks like video.

Waterproof Case for Compact Camera by Aquapac
DiCAPac Case for Compact Digital Cameras

Both of these vinyl bags claim to be waterproof to a moderate depth (up to 15-16 feet), but there is just something about the strength and durability of vinyl which doesn't sit well with me. Various reviews talk about how the bag was sealed properly and the appropriate 'leak' tests conducted, but after a time underwater, it didn't hold up and their camera was ruined. To me, this is a cheap method and could cost you your camera... however, that doesn't mean that these are not without value. They are excellent to protect your camera *around* the pool from all of the splashing which goes on, and it will certainly keep dirt and sand from getting into your camera. And, I recommend a couple of dessicant bags inside the case to help combant the fogging which can occur when you take it from your air conditioned house to the hot outdoors.

Gotta Have Music

Waterproof IPOD Case / Waterproof mp3 player / Waterproof Speakers.

** Works with more than just IPODs

It's Music Time! This case is custom enough to hold your ipod as it features a waterproof membrane allowing you to work the wheel without opening the case... And if it gets dropped in the pool, it floats! It fits all Ipods (except the iphone), but also has a standard audio plug so it can work with any MP3 player or radio that will fit inside the compartment. And when you are done with it poolside, bring it into the shower and sing to your heart's content.

Aquapac Waterproof MP3 Case and waterproof headphones

** for most IPOD and mp3 players

These are rated to be fully submersible up to 15 feet, but my personal opinion is that these waterproof mp3 player cases should be treated much like the pouches used for cameras (see above). They are great for keeping your mp3 player dry when you are poolside, or even if you are walking and jogging in the rain, and equally fine to keep out dust and sand, but if you want to consistently use it underwater, you may want to go for a solid case (see below).

OtterBox Waterproof Ipod Cases

** A must-have

These come in all sizes to accomodate whatever size ipod you might have and are waterproof, dustproof, dirtproof, sandproof, and drop-proof. What more can you ask for? They have a standard external headphone jack for you to plug in your waterproof headphones and come with a belt clip. The clickwheel is covered by a thin membrane to allow it to be fully functional even through the case. As far as waterproof mp3 player cases go, these always rank very well.

Aquapac Waterproof Headphones with In-the-Ear Design, 3.5mm plug, Depth to 30ft / 10m

These waterproof headphones are made from polyurethane-coated wire and nickelplated steel Earbuds. With their in-the-ear design, they deliver quality sound both above and below the water. Aside from being exceptionally reliable and well made, they have the advantage of not being attached to a headset, so regardless of the size of your head, they will fit. Simply put, they allow you to take your music with you, whatever the weather, wherever you go, and whatever you are doing.

H3 Waterproof Headphones

For those folks who like having using a headset for their headphones, then these should do the trick. This waterproof headset comes with silicone earplugs and is guarenteeed waterproof up to 10 feet. They come with a standard 3.5mm stereo jack and will keep you "In the Groove."

H2O waterproof ipod case for Nano 1GB and Nano 3GB

The ipod nano definately has its own size and shape, but these little waterproof ipod cases can get the job done. They are submersible up to 10 feet, and are fitted with a commander scroll wheel which allows you to control the click wheel underwater or even while wearing gloves. They have a LatchTight locking system and a Sealtight connector for you to plug in your waterproof headphones (headphones are not included)

Armband for OtterBox iPod Waterproof Cases

Great for outdoor use, you can strap your otterbox to your arm and be on your way. It has an easy close fastener and will keep your ipod secure on your arm. (Note: If you have small petite arms, this may not be that comfortable)
